Find out about Early Start German
The Early Start German course gradually builds children's language knowledge and skills with carefully planned progression from a small and simple vocabulary. This gives them a sound foundation for later study at secondary school. Early Start German is particularly designed for a mixed ability primary school environment, where the class teacher is responsible for delivering the whole curriculum to a group of children who learn together. Teachers with specific training in the teaching of foreign languages, who are fluent German speakers, will be able to develop their own activities using the films, songs and teaching ideas as a starting point.
Start at the beginning with German 1, "Hallo! Wie geht's?" Pupils start by using German to exchange personal information, to talk about themselves and to find out about other people. Children were filmed in towns along the picturesque River Rhine and also in the Black Forest, with their families, schools and communities. See list of sections in German 1
Early Start German 2, "Meine Ökostadt" (My Eco City) introduces new topics to enable pupils to talk about their town, school and the wider world in which they live; their feelings, likes and dislikes in relation to food, school and leisure activities. They also explore environmental issues through films and activities relating to recycling and energy-saving homes. Much of the filming took place in and around the famously 'green', eco-friendly city of Freiburg in southern Germany. See list of sections in German 2
