Find out about Early Start French
The Early Start French course gradually builds children's language knowledge and skills with carefully planned progression from a small and simple vocabulary. This gives them a sound foundation for later study at secondary school. Early Start French is particularly designed for a mixed ability primary school environment , where the class teacher is responsible for delivering the whole curriculum to a group of children who learn together. Teachers with specific training in the teaching of foreign languages, who are fluent French speakers, will be able to develop their own activities using the films, songs and teaching ideas as a starting point.
Start at the beginning with Early Start French 1 "Salut! Ça va?" This is a great introduction to French language and culture for young beginners, filmed with families, schools and communities in northern France.
We start with the theme of "You and Me" - pupils learn to talk about themselves and to find out about other people. See list of sections in French 1

More engaging films show pupils what it is like to be a French child living in the countryside, small towns and the city. Each section builds on previously-learned language skills, helping children talk in French about what happens around them. See list of sections in French 2
Each section offers a carefully-planned link to another popular topic in the primary curriculum, ranging from mini-beasts, through zoo animals and habitats, to simple instructions in PE. See list of sections in French 3
One chapter offers an exploration of Morocco, another different culture from the France shown in French 1 & 2. This could be used in lessons on geography and international development issues - so is also available as a separate unit (see order form).
